    Annapolis

The capital city of Maryland dates back to the late 1600s, when it originally was known as Anne Arundel Town. It was named in honor of the younger sister of Queen Mary II, who later herself became Queen Anne and ruled England from 1702 until 1714. In the last year of the Revolutionary War, it briefly served as the capital of the rebellious 13 colonies. Nearly two-and-a-half centuries later, Annapolis, which serves as the seat of Maryland’s government, still retains its colonial-era charm, with a walkable downtown of small shops and restaurants, and a picturesque harbor filled with yachts. While the city’s historic mansions are the most attention-getting architecture, the housing stock also includes modern townhouses, high-rise condos and bungalows.
