    Conveniently situated in Montgomery County, just 15 miles northwest of Washington, D.C., Rockville has been recognized as one of the nation’s leading small cities and one of its most diverse communities. Settlement in the area began during the Revolutionary period around Hungerford’s tavern, and the town was first known as Montgomery Court House. In 1801 it was renamed for nearby Rock Creek. Originally an agricultural hub, the town evolved with the expansion of transportation networks, transforming into a thriving suburb of Washington, D.C. Rockville's main attractions include Rockville Town Square which serves as a central hub with shops, restaurants, and a vibrant community space for events, the Glenview Mansion and Civic Center Park, the VisArts center which offers galleries and studios highlighting local talent, and Rock Creek Regional Park for outdoor enthusiasts.
